Portuguese Science Summit Innovation 2026 – Shaping the Future

Call for Proposals for the National Debate

The Portuguese Science Summit Innovation 2026 aims to consult the scientific community, businesses, organizations across various sectors, and national, regional, and local public authorities on collaborative ideas and proposals for scientific research and knowledge-based innovation, including their connection to society, the economy, the local area, and regional development.

In this context, we invite the entire community within our research and innovation ecosystem to submit strategic contributions to this important discussion.

We therefore ask the various stakeholders in the ecosystem to organize themselves in advance into groups, which may vary in composition and size.

The purpose of these groups is to present:

  1. your suggestions for topics, ideas, and specific issues you would like AI² to address in the future.
  2. the scientific, societal, and/or economic factors and impacts that demonstrate the relevance of these topics, ideas, and issues to society.

The topic proposals submitted by the various groups will serve as the basis for a public, participatory debate held across multiple venues, the results of which will contribute to the strategic guidelines for research and innovation in Portugal over the next five years.

All proposals will be reviewed and grouped into moderated discussion sessions. Depending on the number of proposals received, it may be necessary to narrow down the selection.

The model of discussion organized into rooms and tables helps maximize bottom-up participation.

The moderator will allow 3 minutes for each opening statement (without PowerPoint or other visual aids) to ensure there is sufficient time for a more in-depth discussion. Each room will also have a rapporteur who will prepare a summary of the contributions made. The summary of each thematic session will be presented publicly and taken into account in the ongoing strategic evaluation process.

In order to accommodate as many participants and perspectives as possible, we ask that each group have at least four participants.

To promote collaboration among various entities, we ask that each group include participants from at least three different types of entities. These entities may include Research Units (UID), Associated Laboratories (LA), companies, and/or public or private organizations, whether national or regional. In particular, we would like to encourage the participation of interdisciplinary groups that are already effectively collaborating on existing projects and initiatives with measurable impact.

To participate, please fill out the proposal submission form.

The deadline for submitting topic proposals is June 16, 2026.

Proposals will be evaluated by the Organizing Committee of Portuguese Science Summit Innovation and grouped by topic into thematic discussion sessions.

Notification of the acceptance of proposals will be sent by July 1.
